Boy, 11, dies of meningitis

Johannesburg - An 11-year-old pupil on the West Rand has become the latest victim of meningitis, reports the SABC.
Tertius Maritz, a Grade Three pupil at the Lantern School in Lindhaven, died early on Friday morning.
Poena Coetzee, the school principal, says the boy was admitted to hospital on Thursday.
Coetzee says they have notified the health and education authorities and are waiting for instructions. The school has been placed on medical alert.
Thebe Mohatle of the education department says they are awaiting results of tests done on the boy before taking any action.
Three people died of meningitis in an outbreak last month at Potchefstroom in North West. Between 220 and 300 people are treated for meningitis nationwide every year.
