Port Elizabeth - An off-duty police officer was shot in the back in Walmer township south of Port Elizabeth, the SABC reported on Sunday morning.
A massive manhunt has been launched for his assailants.
On Thursday three men were quickly rounded up following the fatal shooting of a police officer on a routine patrol in Claremont, Cape Town. Another officer was seriously injured in the attack. Those arrested are due to appear in court on Monday.
The government announced last week it was disturbed by the recent increase in attacks on members of the police service.
