Mother dies in son's arms

Roodepoort - A 51-year-old woman from Discovery near Johannesburg has died in her son's arms after an intruder shot and killed her while she was watching television with her parents.

An emotional Anna Roberts, 68, was distraught while she explained how five men broke into their home and shot her daughter, Caroline.

"We were watching television just after 20:00. Carol started screaming hysterically because she saw the men first."

One of the robbers overpowered Caroline's son, Henry, 18, in his room and ordered him to the television room.

"They didn't say a word, but simply shot Carol. They were in and out as quick as lightning. It couldn't have been more than two minutes," Mrs Roberts said.

Henry said his mother was shot in the chest.

"I held her while she was screaming and while she was being shot. I stayed with her all the time," Henry said.

He said the suspects jumped over the wall and entered the house through the open front door. They didn't take anything and fled after shooting his mother.
