East London - A 17-year-old pupil of Hoërskool Grens died in a gruesome accident over the weekend after allegedly taking an elderly woman's car for a high-speed joyride
Police spokesperson Stephen Marais said the deceased, Larey Boffa, and a friend, JP Marx, went to visit Marx's grandmother over the weekend.
Marais said Boffa took the grandmother's car in the early hours of Saturday morning and crashed into a sidewalk at high speed.
The car was thrown 2m into the air into a tree from where it bounced into another tree, hitting it 3m from the ground.
The impact ripped the nose and engine from the car and folded the rest of the car around a lamppost.
According to the Police Boffa was thrown from the car and died on impact.
