Polokwane - Former Freedom Front Plus leader in Limpopo, Gerhard Venter, appeared in the Polokwane magistrate's court on Tuesday on two charges of cheque fraud.
Venter and two other former members of the FF+ provincial leadership announced last Thursday they had joined the Democratic Alliance.
According to the FF+, the leadership structures had been disbanded some time before because they had been constituted improperly, while Venter had been suspended from the party due to criminal investigations against him.
On Friday, he was suspended from the DA as well following his arrest on criminal charges not related to the fraud counts.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, Venter was warned to appear in again on January 8, police spokesperson Superintendent Ronel Otto said.
He paid bail of R6 000 in the other matter on Monday.
Venter is alleged to have written cheques for more than R30 000 in 2001 while he knew his cheque account did not exist any longer.
