Johannesburg - Police remained tight-lipped on Sunday about the arrest of a man the Sunday Times reported was suspected of "compiling a dossier containing allegations of a plot to oust or kill President Thabo Mbeki".
The report said the man was later arrested on a matter relating to a passport.
It said the man was being held in Cape Town and that a magistrate had issued a warrant on Friday as there was "reasonable suspicion" that the man might be linked to a "conspiracy to commit murder and of crimen injuria".
Police spokesperson Director Phuti Setati said on Sunday he could not, at that point, name the man in question, nor could he shed any light on what charges were being formulated against him.
The only information he would divulge was that "all being well" the man would appear in the Pretoria magistrate's court on Monday.
He said he would be brought from Cape Town for the appearance.
