Makhado - Three armed men escaped with R600 000 but abandoned their wounded comrade after a bloody cash-in transit robbery in Limpopo on Tuesday morning.
The gang was armed with pistols and rifles and overpowered four security guards in Makhado at about 09:00, said police spokesperson Ailiwei Mushavhanamadi.
The guards had been collecting boxes of money from Solly’s Discount Store in Makhado (formerly Louis Trichardt) when the gang struck.
Two guards were shot and wounded, but their colleagues fired back and hit one of the suspects, a 22-year-old man from Soshanguve in Gauteng, in a shoulder.
He is in hospital under police guard.
Mushavhanamadi said that the other three robbers managed to escape with three boxes of money.
The two wounded security guards are recovering in hospital.
