Two held for dog poisoning

Johannesburg - Two people were arrested in Daveyton for being in possession of aldicarb poison used to kill a number of dogs at homes where household goods have been stolen, North Rand police said on Thursday.
Captain Sophie Mayisela said about 17 cases of dog poisoning had been reported since January last year. A few days after dogs are poisoned, the criminals return to the house, break in and steal household goods.
Dogs were poisoned at a house in Kempton Park last Friday and on Tuesday this week goods were stolen from the same house.
"We suspect that the dogs are poisoned to gain easy access to the houses."
Mayisela said the areas affected were Benoni, Northmead, Crystal Park, Kempton park, Birchleigh and Norkem Park.
"We are appealing to the community to be vigilant and not to hesitate to call the police if they are suspicious of anything," she said.
