01/04/2004 09:38 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The car used in a hijacking at Grasmere Toll Plaza near Johannesburg has been found behind Lenasia Hotel early on Thursday.
Inspector Trudie Wilken for Vaal Rand police said investigators worked through the night, and following up on information, found the hijackers' car about 01:30.
Four men in a red Camry allegedly hijacked a Randburg couple and their niece at Grasmere about 05:00 on Wednesday.
They severely assaulted the man and dumped him by the roadside. They abducted his wife and her niece and raped them. Police later found the females wandering along the N1 highway, and the man where he had been dumped.
The hijackers disappeared with their own vehicle and the couple's Colt bakkie and trailer. The trailer was later found in Lenasia. There is still no sign of the bakkie.
The three victims were taken to the Milpark Hospital for treatment. The couple was discharged, while the niece was admitted to Garden City Clinic in critical but stable condition.
Wilken said: "The investigators are expecting to make arrests soon." -Sapa
