Johannesburg - Six men were arrested in various parts of Johannesburg early on Thursday morning in connection with the murders of three policemen, police said.
The three were killed on Sunday in Troyeville.
A seventh suspect was still being treated in hospital.
Inspector Amanda Roestoff said a task team of 14 specialised detectives worked on the case from Sunday and on Thursday morning arrested the six in Yeoville and Alexandra. They also confiscated ten firearms and two vehicles.
The seventh man was wounded by a security guard at the premises that was robbed on Sunday. He was in hospital under police guard and would soon appear in court.
The task team received information that led them to the premises where the suspects were hiding out.
The firearms confiscated had their serial numbers removed. There were two Z88 pistols, two Beretta pistols, two Lorcin pistols, a 7.65mm pistol, two CZ75 9mm pistols and a Taurus revolver. Several rounds of ammunition were also found.
The vehicles found were a grey Volkswagen Caravelle and a white Toyota Corolla. Roestoff said both had been used in the crime.
The men, aged between 24 and 34, would appear in the Johannesburg magistrate's court on Monday on various charges including three of murder, two of attempted murder, one of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Three policemen were killed and another one, as well as a businessman, wounded, when robbers attacked the business which is situated in Gous Street, Troyville.
The acting area commissioner for Johannesburg, Director Jenny Reddy, congratulated the task team with a job well done.
