Tzaneen - A Limpopo dog owner has caused a stir after telling a tribal court that her pet only attacks people who practice witchcraft.

NwaNkhabele Mhlanga of Mafarana village near Tzaneen was hauled before the tribal court after her dog had attacked two young girls, aged 9 and 14, as they walked past her gate.

They were not seriously injured but their mother reported the matter to the local induna (chief).

Mhlanga appeared before the tribal court on Sunday and refused to take responsibility for her dog's actions.

"I have lived with this dog for many years and, in my experience, it only attacks people who practice witchcraft," she told the court.

"My dog is always right," she added.

The village induna, Wilson Mbokota, said his court did not have the power to decide on matters involving allegations of witchcraft and advised the girls' mother to go to the police. - NewsFirst
