Pretoria - Pretoria advocate Dirk Prinsloo, standing trial on an array of sexual abuse charges, was chided by a high court judge on Wednesday for disrupting proceedings by repeatedly "lurching" out of the dock to pass instructions to his lawyers.
Interrupting a State witness, Judge Essop Patel told Prinsloo: "I will not countenance any disruptions. I will not allow you to lurch across the bench to pass notes."
Prinsloo responded that "this is a tense situation, and I just want desperately to communicate with my counsel".
Patel gave an assurance that he would allow defence counsel to receive instructions from their clients, provided this took place in an orderly fashion.
"I will not allow this court to be used to conduct this trial from the back bench," he said.
Prinsloo faces 16 charges for alleged sexual violations committed with his lover Cezanne Visser against a number of women and girls.
Visser, dubbed "Advocate Barbie" for an apparent likeness to the busty, blonde plastic doll, is charged with 15 counts.
They are out on bail of R4 000 each.
The pair faces two counts of rape, four of indecent assault, three of enticing a minor to commit indecent acts, one each of fraud, sexual exploitation of a minor and possessing child pornography, two of manufacturing such material, and one of possessing dagga.
Prinsloo is also charged with assaulting one of the complainants.
