Attacker shot after killing dog

Johannesburg - A 63-year-old man was shot in the leg and his dog killed during a shootout with a would-be robber in Knights, Germiston on Saturday morning, East Rand police said.
The man was walking the dog with his wife when they were confronted by an armed man shortly after 07:00, Inspector Thomlyn Jacobs said.
The man, thought to be in his late twenties, shot and killed the dog when it attacked him.
The husband then drew his pistol and a shootout with the man ensued, during which the husband was hit in the leg.
He was taken to Union Hospital where he is in a stable condition.
His assailant was killed.
