Witbank - A man was shot with his own gun after robbing a 40-year-old man of his cellphone in Dennilton near Witbank on Monday, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Malculm Mokomene said on Tuesday the man was on his way to a bus stop when he was approached by two men, one of whom held him at gunpoint while the other robbed him of his cellphone.

The victim grabbed the gun and a shot went off, hitting the robber.

The other robber grabbed his wounded friend and they fled with the cellphone.

Meanwhile, in Machadodorp a 37-year-old man was held at gunpoint by three armed men when he stopped at a roadside cafe.

The men stole his cellphone and cash, and left in another car. No one was injured and the suspects were still at large, Mokomene said.

In yet another incident, a 22-year-old was robbed of his Nokia cellphone while walking with a friend near Middelburg.

Mokomene said two men approached the victim, one pointed a gun at him, demanded the cellphone and ran off. Police were investigating. /rjt
