Pretoria - Police arrested 57 illegal immigrants during an "Operation Youth" raid in Mamelodi and Eersterust on Friday night.

The 57 were arrested after police and other law-enforcement agencies had cordoned off the area and searched night spots and pedestrians, Inspector Percy Morokane said on Saturday.

Two other people were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence. A third man, wanted for possession and dealing Mandrax during the past year, was also arrested.

Police also confiscated four kilograms of dagga.
