Johannesburg - West Rand police have arrested a wanted man who allegedly shot and wounded a policeman who tried to arrest him for bank robbery last October.
Police spokesperson Inspector Yolande Bouwer said on Monday that the policeman, Captain Richard Ramukosi, was shot with his own firearm.
Two others were arrested with the suspect for a host of crimes, including murder, escaping from custody, bank robbery, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of stolen goods and attempted murder of a police official.
"Intense investigations are continuing and the possibility exists that the suspects may be linked to other crimes," said Bouwer.
The trio are to appear in the Roodepoort magistrate's court on Monday.
Bouwer said police made a breakthrough arrest in Malvern, Johannesburg, on Thursday.
"Police also confiscated more than R20 000, five cell phones, a 9mm pistol, rounds of ammunition and a magazine," she said.
"Meanwhile the suspects will remain in heavily guarded detention, at a facility which cannot be divulged due to security reasons."
