Nelspruit - An Mpumalanga man has been charged with declaring his stepfather dead in order to collect his R15 000 life insurance policy.

Fanigayi Banda was not asked to plead to fraud when he appeared in Nelspruit magistrate's court on Tuesday and his bail of R2 000 was extended pending his next appearance on May 6.

The department of home affairs had since re-issued his stepfather with a new identity book so that he could continue to collect his monthly state pension.
