Pretoria - First it was the name change.
Now the Tshwane metro council will consider erecting a statue on Strijdom Square to honour Chief Tshwane.
The recommendation was made during a health and social development portfolio committee meeting.
According to sources the committee recommended that the statue
be made of bronze and that it be one-and-a-half times life size.
Apparently, a letter on the issue has been sent to the Gauteng government, which owns the square. If approved, the statue is expected to cost in the region of R950 000, while R300 000 will be made available for the official unveiling.
The council is expected to take a decision on the issue at the June 3 meeting.
