Drug lab: More arrests expected
24/05/2005 13:19 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The bust of a drug manufacturing laboratory in Braamfontein will disrupt the circulation of drugs in Gauteng, police said on Tuesday.
Three men, aged between 25 and 26, were caught red-handed and would appear in the Johannesburg magistrate's court on Thursday on charges of manufacturing and possession of drugs, said Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini.
"At this stage the involvement of a syndicate cannot be ruled out and more arrests may follow," he said. "The men were manufacturing the drugs and packaging them in small glass containers. This shows that they were being prepared for distribution."
The three were arrested by the Johannesburg organised crime unit on Monday night in the factory on Smit Street.
Over R1m worth of equipment, chemicals and drugs known as Tik (crystal methamphetamine) and Cat (methcathinone) were seized by police, Dlamini said.
