Johannesburg - A man shot and injured a policewoman after he had robbed a jewellery store in Ermelo on Tuesday, Mpumalanga police said.
Police spokesperson Captain Albie Khoabane said the shooting took place at Sterns near the Sanlam Shopping Centre in the town.
"Two female student constables were on their way to the shopping centre when a woman ran out of her store screaming for help," said Khoabane.
"The woman told the two constables that an armed man was robbing her jewellery store and asked them for help."
When the man saw the two constables approaching the store, he ran out and fired a shot at them, said Khoabane.
One constable was wounded in her left leg. She was admitted to Ermelo Medi-Clinic for treatment.
The robber escaped with jewellery valued at R20 000.
Police were investigating, said Khoabane.
