Cape Town - Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds are the two most unhealthy fast food providers in South Africa, according to News24 users.
In a recent poll conducted on the website, an overwhelming majority of users felt that Colonel Sanders (40%) and Ronald McDonald's (39%) wares were to be avoided.
In 24 hours, nearly 5 000 users voted in the poll, which was prompted by opinions released by Health Minister Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang after a dispute erupted between her and the Nando's fast food chain on the question of how healthy its food is.
Nando's responded with a newspaper advert saying: "Let's see whose thighs are slimmer, Minister Tshabalala-Msimang".
News24's users disagreed with Tshabalala-Msimang, with only 3% of those who voted in the poll saying Nando's sold unhealthy food.
St Elmo's came out tops with only 2% of users saying they found its food to be unhealthy.
Other fast-food chains included in the poll were Wimpy (6%), Steers (5%) and Debonairs (4%).
News24's polls are not scientific and reflect the opinions of only those Internet users who have chosen to participate.
