Klebsiella under control
28/06/2005 08:43 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The klebsiella outbreak that claimed the lives of 17 babies at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Durban was under control, SABC news reported on Monday.
A report on the findings of an investigation into the outbreak would be released on Tuesday.
"We knew where it was coming from and we've stopped it, there has been no new infections," SABC quoted professor of microbiology and head of the investigating commission, Willem Sturm, as saying.
Twenty babies contracted the klebsiella bacterial infection in the hospital's neo-natal unit. The hospital became suspicious when several babies got ill on May 23.
