Cape Town - Armed robbers held up a Coin security vehicle in Cape Town on Monday morning, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
The vehicle stopped at Food World in Owen Road, Elsies River, just before 09:00 to collect money, spokesperson Superintendent Riaan Pool said.
As the security officer returned to the vehicle with a cashbox he was overpowered by four armed men, who took his firearm and the cashbox.
As the robbers fled in a blue Volkswagen Polo, they fired several shots at the security vehicle, but no-one was injured.
The driver of another car which was believed to have been accompanying the Polo, lost control of it and hit the pavement at the corner of Viking and Halt roads.
The occupants fled on foot. Two guns were recovered from the Toyota.
