Mpuma fires 14 for fraud
18/08/2005 09:33 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Fourteen people have been dismissed for defrauding the Mpumalanga local government and housing department, it said on Thursday.
This follows disciplinary hearing against 22 departmental officials who were implicated in defrauding the department of more than R350 000 through bogus salary payments.
The 14 were dismissed after being found guilty of two or more charges each, and eight officials were penalised with three months work without pay because they were first-time offenders, said departmental spokesperson Simphiwe Kunene.
"The eight officials will be expected to give full disclosure to the department about their actions. All the 22 officials will be expected to pay back the money," he said.
