Johannesburg - A 40-year-old man was shot and wounded in Randfontein early on Saturday morning by a group of men who stole his cellphone, West Rand police said.
Inspector Katlego Mogale said Caiphus Raphadu was on his way to work just after 08:00 in Mohlakeng when five armed men accosted him.
Three of the men walked in front of him and two behind him. The men suddenly tackled Raphadu and started fighting with him. One pulled out a firearm and shot him in the lower body.
They grabbed his cellphone and fled.
Raphadu was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Mogale said.
His condition was not known.
