Robber shot dead in burglary

Johannesburg - A robber was shot dead and two of his accomplices managed to escape after they broke into the house of a police captain in Westonaria on Saturday morning, police said.
Inspector Katlego Mogale said that the officer's wife woke up around 03:00 on Saturday, hearing "strange noises" in the house.
She alerted her husband, who investigated and came across three men breaking into the house.
He chased them for a distance before the robbers turned around and assaulted the captain. He fired at them, hitting one in the chest. The man died instantly. The other two ran away.
Mogale said the men smashed a bedroom window to get into the house and stole a vehicle tyre.
