Hijackers hit nursery school
24/08/2005 18:45 - (SA)
Pretoria - Two men were arrested after they allegedly robbed a woman and stole a couple's car outside a Pretoria nursery school on Wednesday, police said.
Inspector Anton Breedt said: "Three armed men ordered a man out of his BMW X5 as he was waiting for his wife to pick up their child from a nursery school in Garsfontein, east of Pretoria."
He said the men had also robbed a woman outside the nursery school of her personal belongings. The men did not enter the school's premises, said Breedt.
"The three drove away from the scene in the BMW, which was later found abandoned elsewhere in Garsfontein."
Breedt said police later received a call about men fitting the three's description, travelling in a Jeep.
"Police tracked them down and a chase ensued. The men drove to Menlyn Park shopping centre where they abandoned the Jeep in the parking lot and started to flee on foot."
He said two men, aged 28 and 30, were arrested and the third man was still at large.
The two were held on charges of armed robbery and were to appear in court soon, said Breedt.
