Johannesburg - A Tembisa councillor was arrested after North Rand police found hijacked cars at his home on Friday morning.
"One of the vehicles recovered relates to a hijacking in Midrand earlier this month in which an off-duty police reservist shot and killed a hijacker," said police spokesperson superintendent Eugene Opperman.
"The vehicle also has several hastily covered bullet holes in it. It will now be carefully investigated by ballistic and forensic experts."
Nearly 150 people have been arrested in crime swoops in the area this week, Opperman said.
"Police intend continuing with their intensified policing efforts for at least another 14 days," he said.
"Those arrested have been charged with hijacking, attempted murder, murder, armed robbery, burglary, rape and other serious crimes."
Police also netted nine stolen firearms and a total of nine hijacked or stolen vehicles.
"The total value of all the stolen goods recovered is about R4 million," said Opperman.
