Crime blitz nets 749 arrests

Johannesburg - East Rand police arrested 749 people for various offences over the weekend, police said on Sunday.
Superintendent Andy Pieke said arrests were made for murder, robbery, theft, serious assault, shoplifting, illegal gambling, possession of drugs and unlicensed firearms and for liquor related offences.
Two of the 12 unlicensed firearms seized, were seized from men who were arrested on Sunday for robbing a bread truck in Vosloorus.
Police also arrested 137 illegal immigrants.
The arrests were made in Kwa-Thema, Springs, Katlehong, Boksburg, Germiston and Duduza.
