Sleeping 'rapist' nabbed
30/08/2005 09:30 - (SA)
Durban - A man who allegedly raped a woman and then fell asleep on her bed was arrested by police in Paddock on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Zandra Hechter on Monday said a woman, 44, was woken by a knock on her door.
"A person who identified himself as her neighbour's son said her mother had just passed away and instructed her to open the door," Hechter said.
The man "demanded sex" and when she refused he raped her. "After finishing he fell asleep on the bed. The victim then locked him inside and contacted the police."
When police arrived at her house the intruder was still asleep and police arrested him, Hechter said.
In a similar incident on Saturday members of the Camperdown community in the midlands arrested a man, 30, after he grabbed a woman who was doing her washing outside the house, threatened her with a knife, and pulled her into her house.
"It is alleged the suspect then raped the victim and thereafter fell asleep. The woman managed to escape and reported the incident to neighbours. The suspect was then apprehended by members of the community who handed him over to the police," said police spokesperson Les Botha.
Both men were expected to appear in court this week.
