Bogus hijack puts man in court
30/08/2005 20:13 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A man who reported a false hijacking was sentenced to two years' jail, or a R10 000 fine, on Tuesday after Germiston regional court found him guilty of perjury.
Police had been puzzled about a call from Sarel Hendrick Jansen van Vuuren, 24, of Edenvale, during bumper-to-bumper traffic on the evening of July 8.
"He later confessed to having financial difficulties and said he had approached a man to take his car," said Superintendent Andy Pieke of East Rand police.
"The man and the car have not been found."
