Pietermaritzburg - A rape victim aged four on Friday identified a 27-year-old man, who is claimed to have raped her in a toilet at her pre-primary school in August, Pietermaritzburg police said on Friday.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said members of the Pietermaritzburg family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit under the command of Captain Pipes Haffajee arrested the man on Friday.

"It is alleged the rape took place at a pre-primary school in Boom Street in the Pietermaritzburg area during the afternoon of Thursday August 25.

It is also claimed the child was in the school toilet when she was confronted by the accused who raped her," said Jeevan.

She said police apparently were told by the child's mother.

Jeevan said it was believed the alleged rapist also had a child at the school.

The man was expected to appear in court on Monday.
