Johannesburg - Two men accused of murder were beaten to death by a mob at Rabie Ridge's Mayibuye Extension on Sunday, North Rand police said.
The two men, according to the mob, robbed and killed a woman in the area on Friday, Superintendent Eugene Opperman said.
Opperman, who confirmed the woman's murder, said: "The mob have acted like barbaric animals in their frenzy to take the law into their own hands.
"These people and their barbaric behaviour make a complete mockery of our country's Constitution, something which many people in our country fought for, for many years," he said.
A special task team of detectives was created to probe the two men's death, Opperman said.
He said one person has already been arrested in connection with the men's murder. He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park magistrate's court on Tuesday, Opperman said.
