Johannesburg - A 46-year-old man faced murder charges in Boksburg magistrate's court on Monday after he allegedly killed two men who'd apparently tried to rob him.
East Rand police spokesperson superintendent Andy Pieke said the man told police he was walking towards his home in the Delmore squatter camp at 21:45 on Sunday when three men walked up to him, threatened him with a gun and took his cellphone and cash.
When he got home he fetched his gun and went back to the area where he was robbed, to be confronted by the robbers again.
He fired several shots at them, allegedly fatally wounding two of the men. The third fled. His cellphone and cash were found on the bodies of the dead robbers.
Pieke said the man handed himself over to the police at Reiger Park on Monday, and a murder docket was opened. His gunman was confiscated and he was taken to the Boksburg magistrate's court.
The two men who were shot had not yet been identified and their bodies were taken to the Germiston mortuary.
