Johannesburg - Police arrested seven people, recovered three hijacked vehicles and three stolen handguns at the weekend, police said on Monday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said the first two arrests were made on Friday after police received information about armed robbers hiding at the Wattville Hostel in Actonville.
"The robbers were apparently involved in an armed robbery at a liquor store in Actonville last Thursday," said Opperman.
"Police also recovered a stolen handgun after arresting the two men."
Opperman said three other people were arrested and a vehicle was recovered on Saturday after police reacted to a complaint of suspicious-looking people sitting in an Audi A6 in President Park in Midrand.
The vehicle was found to have been hijacked in Johannesburg earlier this month. A stolen handgun was also recovered.
Found goods worth R60 000 in car
"Later on Saturday, police found a stolen vehicle in Tembisa.
"They also found electrical goods worth about R60 000 in the car which had been stolen during an armed robbery at a house in Norkem Park," said Opperman.
On Sunday, police arrested a man who was allegedly involved in a robbery in Boksburg North in January this year. A stolen handgun was recovered from him.
Two other hijacked vehicles were recovered in Actonville and Tembisa and a another man was arrested, said Opperman.
He appealed to members of the public to report anything suspicious to 10111.
