Feathers fly in firework fury

Johannesburg - The SPCA is worried that the Johannesburg Country Club (JCC) in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, is discharging fireworks after saying it would not.
"It is bad faith and shows a lack of integrity," said SPCA spokesperson Christine Kuch.
"They shot off fireworks on Saturday night. I know they have a permit, but they said there would be no fireworks this year."
Joan Tom, who lives close to the club, said she had organised a petition of 2–000 signatures against fireworks at the club.
"We sent it to every man and his dog," she said, commenting that her roof had caught fire during Guy Fawkes last year.
Club spokesperson Nikki Espley-Jones said the "fireworks" on Saturday were only a laser light display.
"They were no minor explosives," she said.
The city councillor for the area could not be reached for comment nor could the club's chairperson.
