Pretoria - A 20-month-old toddler who went missing after a car was hijacked in Centurion south of Pretoria on Tuesday has been found, police said.
Constable Brenda Kgafela said police had also arrested two men in connection with the hijacking.
Toddler Henry le Roux was in the car when two men stole it outside his mother's house about 08:30.
The mother, Carla le Roux, had left her son inside the car while fetching something in her house.
A domestic worker saw the car being driven away, said superintendent Eugene Opperman of North Rand police.
Le Roux contacted Tracker as the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device and the firm contacted police.
Details of the vehicle were circulated to all police units throughout Gauteng, said Opperman.
A police helicopter helped with the search and the North Rand highway patrol and police air wing tracked the stolen vehicle to the border of Rabie Ridge/Ivory Park and Tembisa about an hour later.
Opperman said the toddler was not in the car and police immediately started searching for him.
"However, police received a message from the Olifantsfontein police shortly afterwards that a member of the public had found the child wandering near a shopping centre.
"The child was taken to the police station and is unharmed," he said.
The two men are due to appear in Tembisa magistrate's court on Thursday on charges of vehicle theft and kidnapping.
