  • Secunda - Three men hijacked a truck but later abandoned it near Nigel after realising it was an oil tanker, Mpumalanga police said on Tuesday.

"They were not interested," captain Abie Khaobane said, adding that the three men were still at large after the truck was found on Monday.

The trio hijacked the truck after the driver stopped at an Engen garage in Grootvlei to buy food on Sunday evening around 9pm.

He was on his way from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.

"They forced the driver into the truck at gunpoint and drove off.

"They tied his hands and feet and dropped him off in the veld. He managed to untie himself and contacted police."
