Man offered chips after rape

Johannesburg - A 44-year-old man of Spooktown, Bekkersdal, has been arrested after allegedly raping a four-year-old and then offering her chips, said police on Wednesday.
The girl, who left the man's shack crying and carrying her panties and clothes, was raped on Monday afternoon," said sergeant Solomon Sibiya.
"She was playing outside the man's shack when he called her inside," he said.
The child's mother, later noticing her naked child was distressed, asked her what had happened.
"The girl started to tell of the rape ordeal and also mentioned the suspect," Sibiya said.
"It is claimed that the mother approached the suspect who apologised and promised to buy the child some chips," he said.
Instead, the mother reported the matter to police and the arrested man is due to appear in Westonaria magistrate's court on Thursday.
