Pologwane - Eight villagers at Gaphaatlha in Nebo near Polokwane were arrested on Sunday morning for beating a suspected murderer to death, Limpopo police said.

Superintendent Patty Khumalo said the 31-year-old suspect allegedly killed one man and injured another when he robbed them of R200 and a cellphone.

The two had been selling water in Gaphaatlha village at the time of their robbery on Saturday afternoon.

Residents apprehended the alleged criminal at about 03:00 on Sunday and assaulted him.

The man died at the scene.

The eight are expected to appear in the Nebo magistrate's court on Monday, Khumalo said.
