2nd shot for cheating matrics
10/10/2005 22:15 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The 843 Mpumalanga matriculants who were caught cheating in their final year examinations last year will rewrite them this month, SABC News reported on Monday.
The 19 teachers who were found guilty of helping the pupils cheat wouldn't be invigilating this year. They will only be allowed to do so next year.
More than 1 900 pupils at 10 schools were investigated last year when it emerged that some matriculants had been found cheating in their examination.
The number was later reduced to about 500.
In 1998, the Mpumalanga matric examinations also came under the spotlight when it transpired that the province's pass rate had been artificially inflated by 20%.
