Cape Town - An eight-year-old girl was wounded when a taxi driver opened fire on her father's car in Kuils River on Tuesday night, said Western Cape police.
The girl's father confronted the driver of the minibus about his reckless driving at a stop sign in Reuter Street at 20:50, said superintendent Debby Pheiffer on Wednesday.
"On the corner of Elmarie and Reuter streets, the minibus passed the car and the taxi driver started shooting at his vehicle."
The girl, who was shot in the hip, was in a stable condition, she said.
The minibus was later found abandoned in Sikilela Street, Kalkfontein. Although the taxi driver was still at large, his identity was known, said Pheiffer.
Police were investigating a case of attempted murder.
Pheiffer asked anyone able to help police with information about the shooting to contact detective-sergeant Warren Petersen on 021 906 1380, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
