Thohoyandou - A 29-year-old Limpopo man was shot and injured by police on Wednesday while he was stabbing his 23-year-old wife and mother-in-law following a heated argument.
Police were trying to stop him but he defied their orders. They then shot him in the groin.
Vhembe police spokesperson captain Mashudu Malelo said on Wednesday the incident took place at Manini village near Thohoyandou.
"The argument started when the man requested a copy of a protection order which she had promised to give him early that morning," Malelo said.
Malelo said the suspect was enraged when he did not get it and started stabbing her.
The mother-in-law tried to separate the two, but she ended up getting stabbed herself.
Malelo said the police found the suspect busy stabbing the victim, and fired warning shots which he ignored.
A police officer decided to shoot him and he fell on the ground. Both the man and the wife are receiving medical attention and are in a stable condition.
The suspect is still under police guard and will appear in court soon after being discharged.
Malelo said the man has opened a case of attempted murder against the policeman.
