BLA lodges racism complaint
24/10/2005 22:27 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The Black Lawyers' Association is to lodge a complaint with the Human Rights Commission regarding the racism row in the South African judiciary, SABC news reported on Monday.
SAHRC chair Jody Kollapen said the BLA indicated it wanted to lodge a formal complaint within the next 10 to 14 days. Kollapen could not speculate on what the content of the complaint would be, except that it was related to the current row around racism in the judiciary.
The SAHRC had also looked at the report released by the chief justice on the issue. The commission was of the view that the report provided a useful basis to deal with racism and sexism on an ongoing basis, in terms of both the pro-active measures it proposed as well as the mechanisms for dealing with complaints internally, Kollapen said.
