Giyani - A well-known Limpopo sangoma has returned from a trip to Europe where he shared his knowledge on traditional healing with university researchers.
Sylvester Hlati, who runs a traditional healing practice in Malamulele near Giyani, spent three weeks at the University of Amsterdam in Holland.
"The university is doing research on African traditional medicines and I was invited to share my knowledge with them," he said. "I showed them how we mixed and used our muti."
Hlati said he was invited by a Mozambican-born professor who was doing research at the university and said that it was the first time he had flown in a plane.
"I was humbled to see Europeans showing interest in our medicines," he said.
Hlati believes the time has come for African medicines to be globalised because they are safe and have no side effects.
"There is no such a thing called an overdose," he said.
Hlati, who is the founder and president of Malamulele Traditional Doctors' Organisation, plans to open new practices in Musina and Makhado. - NewsFirst
