Johannesburg - A road rage attack on a farm road near Brits turned into tragedy on Saturday after two brothers were shot and one of them died shortly afterwards.

The shooting took place at about 17:00 on Saturday after two vehicles travelling in opposite directions touched while the drivers tried to pass each other on a narrow dirt road.

Elsabe Augoustides, police spokesperson for the Marico district in North West, said Tshepo Mogapi, 30, and his brother, Kgomotso, 29, were driving to the Letlabile township near Brits when their car collided with an oncoming bakkie.

Augoustides said the brothers and the suspect got out of their vehicles and an argument ensued about who had caused the collision.

Tshepo stopped the man when he wanted to get back into his bakkie.

The man allegedly took out a gun and shot him in the chest and left arm.

"His brother, who wanted to take the gun, was also shot in the chest."

Tshepo died on the spot and Kgomotso was in critical condition in a hospital in Brits.

The suspect was later arrested and the police confiscated a 9mm pistol.

The man was expected to appear in the Letlabile magistrate's court on Monday.
