Tables turned on robbers
26/12/2005 16:25 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Two armed robbers got more than they bargained for when they held up a Coin security officer collecting money at The Boulders in Midrand on Christmas Eve.
Seeing that the men were going to get away with a large amount of cash, the officer smashed the security van into the robber's getaway vehicle, preventing their escape.
According to police superintendent Eugene Opperman, the robbers threatened the officer, taking his gun and the money. They fled to a BMW parked outside.
"The driver of the Coin security armoured vehicle saw the men running to the BMW and putting the stolen money in the car.
"He then decided that these robbers will not get away with the money so he smashed the armoured vehicle into the BMW," said Opperman.
"The two highly surprised and frightened robbers fled on foot with only the security official's handgun," he said.
