Table Mountain fire calmed Homes burn in Cape Town fire Fire: Camps Bay homes evacuated

Cape Town - Another destructive fire erupted on the front slopes of Table Mountain on Thursday afternoon sending clouds of smoke over the Cape Town city bowl.

A strong Southerly wind is driving the fire up the mountain in the direction of Camps Bay.

Table Mountain Road has been closed and the cable car closed down.

Fire fighting helicopters are battling the flames and the fire department has despatched several firefighters to the scene.

The fire is also closing in on houses in the upmarket suburbs of Oranjezicht and Higgovale.

Traffic is building up on Kloofnek Road as resident are rushing home.

Some people reportedly have already been evacuated.

Last month houses in Camps Bay had to be evacuated when a fire raged on the Twelve Apostles side of Table Mountain.
