'Plane thief' set for take-off
13/02/2006 16:05 - (SA)
Pretoria - All charges against a man accused of stealing an aeroplane from Wonderboom Airport in 2002 have been withdrawn in Pretoria North magistrate's court, SABC radio news reported on Monday.
Stefan du Preez allegedly stole the Cessna 206 at the airport and left it on the N4 highway near the Bronkhorstspruit offramp in the early hours of the next morning.
He allegedly wanted to commit suicide after a failed relationship.
It was believed he had to make an emergency landing after the plane ran out of fuel.
One charge of theft and three of contravening civil aviation and navigation regulations were withdrawn, after the State indicated they could not get hold of eyewitnesses.
