Johannesburg - Residents of areas of Ekhuruleni whose lights went off around 20:00 on Wednesday may only have power again on Thursday afternoon.

Municipal spokesperson Kyobeli Mokheseng said on Thursday morning electricians who had worked through the night said power would probably be restored "in six to seven hours".

A transformer blew up, he added.

The affected areas were Primrose Hill, Fisher's Hill, Solheim, Symhurst, Meadowdale, Meadowbrook, Sunnyrock and Sunnyridge.
